How important is the choice of hardwood to be installed over radiant heat?
Choice of hardwood is important. Below are some aspects to consider when laying hardwood over radiant heat floors.
FACE WIDTH
Narrow face widths shrink and expand less noticeably than do wider planks.
BEVELED EDGES
Bevels will help to disguise inevitable shrinkage and individual board movement.
GRAIN PATTERN
Quarter cut, rift or edge grain materials are recommended and more stable over in-floor heating systems.
SPECIES
Some species are recommended to be laid over radiant heat; some species are NOT. Consult our wood flooring experts for information.
